Give each session a purpose
Replace open the app with an observable task. For a habit tracker, ask somebody to create a reminder, change its time, and explain what they expect to happen. Avoid coaching them through every tap: hesitation can reveal unclear labels that the developer no longer notices.
Ask about the unexpected
After a task, ask what surprised them, what they nearly tapped, and what they would do next. Separate opinion from a reproducible defect. Record both, but use device details and steps when investigating a failure. Do not invent a universal minimum session length.
Show the feedback loop
Tell participants which issues you changed and ask them to retry the affected path. Keep before-and-after observations together. This creates a useful record of product learning without treating repeated launches or artificial usage as evidence of meaningful testing.
